How does online tutoring work?

Students must have access to a computer and high-speed internet. Online tutoring works best for students who are working on essays, or extensive assignments that are easy to access online (E.G. Google Docs/GAFE). Students may need assistance with proofreading and editing an assignment, which gives me the ability to pull up their assignment to review and add comments and feedback to.

During the session, the student and I will use Skype, Google Hangouts, or even FaceTime to hear and see each other. We can also upload any images, links, or other documents into a shared document for students to access and review.  It’s very interactive and surprisingly easy! A lot of students seem to prefer this method, especially students who have very busy and demanding schedules.

What subjects do you tutor?

I tutor English/language arts. I support students in grades K-5 with reading comprehension, writing, standardized test practice, and spelling. I also tutor students at the middle school/high school level with general academic (ELA related) support, as well as SAT Prep and college admission essay support. With all the students that I tutor, I also help with general academic organization and tips and tricks for managing time and being the best student that you can be :-)

When are you available for tutoring?

Give or take, due to the high-demand of my services, I am available 7 days a week, with Saturday/Sunday as an option as well. Online tutoring is a bit more flexible. I can start as early as 8 A.M. and generally go until around 7 P.M. At our consultation, we will discuss your particular scheduling needs. To schedule and/or change a session, shoot me a text or e-mail! Students who do online tutoring have the option to schedule "as needed," meaning not regularly scheduled sessions.

Other families have the option of once a week, twice a week, or every other week.

Sessions available in 1-hour, or 90- minute increments

What are your rates?

My rates reflect my experience and the quality of service you will receive. The price includes the travel to your home or a quiet public place in Howard County (e.g., library, Barnes and Nobles, etc.)

  • 90 minute session – $90

  • 60 minute session – $70

  • 2 hour session- $120

How does payment work?

I accept payment in the form of cash, check, Paypal, Venmo, or Zelle (Bank of America). For families that tutor more than once a week, you may pay at the end of the week. For students who tutor once a week, your payment is due at the end of our session. For students who are doing online tutoring, you must submit payment at the end of our session, unless previously arranged.

What is your cancellation policy?

This business is my main source of income. That said, my cancellation policy is my very best attempt to balance fairness to the student and to myself. Additionally, tutoring is a valuable commitment, and showing up to each tutoring session helps the student create momentum in their learning.

  • I ask that you let me know about a cancellation as soon as possible. Please shoot me a text.

  • I require a 10- hour notice for a cancellation in order to not be charged. Sessions canceled with less than 10 hours notice must be paid in full. (DOES NOT APPLY TO COVID-RELATED CANCELLATIONS)

  •  Excessive cancellations may be reason for ending tutoring services. (DOES NOT APPLY TO COVID-RELATED CANCELLATIONS)

If I have to change a session and/or cancel, I will let you know ASAP. Things happen and life is tough, so I just ask that if you need to cancel and/or change a session, that you inform me ASAP to avoid me already being in route to your location.

**You are not signing a contract, so if for any reason that you are unhappy with the services, or decide to discontinue tutoring services, please just let me know so I can make sure all borrowed materials are returned to me :).

How do I get started?

Fill out the contact form with a bit about your child(ren) and what you are looking for and I will get back to you with information and availability to meet for our consultation. Please don't hesitate to reach out with ANY questions or concerns. You can e-mail me directly at offthewalltutoring@gmail.com

When can we expect to see results?

Like any long-term investment in your student'(s) education, some results may be immediate, while others may develop over time. Every student's starting point is different, so no two sessions will be the same. Expect results not only in work quality, but also work attitude. I make my best attempt in building relationships with my students because I want them to look forward to our sessions together. Improvements in perspective can last for life.
